Video Game Developer Opens N&L Studio

Other Ocean Group Inc., a video game developer, is based in California, but led by the Canadians Andrew and Deirdre Ayre. Last year, the Ayres decided to open a new development studio in their home province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The expansion will create 62 jobs over five years, and was partially funded by a C$2.4 million grant from the province.

"We are tremendously pleased to be partnering with the province to help establish and grow the video game industry in Newfoundland and Labrador," said Other Ocean Group Owner and CEO Andrew Ayre. "As Newfoundlanders, we know the determination and drive of the people, and we are delighted to be bringing our industry experience home to create well-paying, long-term jobs."

The new studio, to be called Other Ocean Interactive, will be located in St. John's. It will specialize in video games for Apple's iPhone, Nintendo DS and Wii, and Microsoft's Xbox 360.
