Republic Services Makes $16 Million Capital Investment In Jacksonville, Florida
05/30/2012
"This state-of-the-art facility is creating new jobs while significantly increasing the amount of recycling in our region," said Wally Lee, president of the JAX Chamber. "We applaud Republic Services for its investment in the northwest Jacksonville community and our region."
Serving residents and businesses in a multi-county area, including Duval and St. Johns counties, Republic Services' new facility is the first of its kind in Northeast Florida, featuring advanced sorting capabilities which include magnets, screens and optical sorters that identify and separate different kinds of materials.
By increasing the kinds of acceptable recyclable materials the center, located on Imeson Road, is increasing revenue to the City of Jacksonville, state economic development officials explained. The regional facility can process more than 120,000 tons of recyclables per year. While state and local governments offer tax incentives to firms that promote recycling and business expansion, information on any package that might have been provided to Republic was not immediately available.
"Our new recycling center represents Republic Services' commitment to the Northeast Florida region and our commitment to planet-friendly solutions," said Andrew King, general manager of Republic Services. "Every ton of material that goes to this center will preserve the life of the landfill and ultimately save taxpayer dollars." Additionally, residents can now recycle additional plastics and aseptic packaging, such as juice boxes and boxed soup containers.
