MAAS Aviation Partners With Mobile Airport Authority On Paint Facility In Brookley, Alabama

06/17/2015
The Mobile Airport Authority entered into a partnership with MAAS Aviation to construct a new $39 million dollar twin bay paint facility at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley, Alabama. MAAS estimates the creation of over 80 new, full-time jobs at its multiple aircraft painting facilities at the Mobile Aeroplex and will be offering extensive training in accordance with the company’s well established and industry leading programs.

Established in 1980 , The Mobile Airport Authority operates the Mobile Regional Airport, a 3,000 acre commercial airport and industrial complex, the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley and the adjacent Mobile Downtown Airport, a combined 1,700 acre complex.

The paint facility in Brookley is in addition to the soon to be completed facility on the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility site, Airport Authority officials said. It will focus on the commercial Maintenance Repair and Overhaul market in the Americas. The approximate 2 acre site is ideally situated between Airbus to the South, VTMAE MRO hangar complex to the North, and to the west by the Continental Motors Services general aviation and business jet MRO operations. The approximate year-long construction of the state-of-the-art and environmentally sensitive facility will commence in the fall of 2015 with the first aircraft to be painted in October 2016.

Roger Wehner, Executive Director of Mobile Airport Authority commented, "We are very happy with the partnership we have forged with MAAS over the last year; they are a world class partner and we have been impressed by their internal focus on process and training. The design process has included many embedded quality and efficiency elements which we believe contributes to their ability to compete on quality and speed, providing considerable value to operators."

“This facility represents a new capability not only for the Aeroplex but for the broader southeastern region. The growth of our new aircraft assembly cluster dovetails with our existing MRO cluster creating one mutually complimentary ecosystem. The cumulative capability set allows for more robust solutions spanning the aircraft lifecycle,” he said.

"Airbus welcomes these new companies to the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley! It’s great that the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility has helped to draw them to Mobile, which has so much to offer. Together we will help Mobile grow into world-class aerospace center, and hopefully welcome even more ‘new neighbors’ as we move forward,” said Allan McArtor, Chairman-Airbus Group, Inc.
