Blu Homes Produces Energy Efficient Modular Houses in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts
06/23/2010
Work force and cost of business attracted the company to the area.
"But the building was less important than the workers we found here, with the skill sets we needed," said Blu Homes president William M. Haney.
"Western Massachusetts has traditionally had a lower cost of doing business," said U.S. Representative Richard E. Neal (D-Springfield), compared to other parts of Massachusetts.
The company has a total of 35 employees, with 15 in production roles at East Longmeadow. Blu's vice president of operations, Trevor L. Huffard, estimated that the company could employ up to 150 in East Longmeadow if it continued to expand.
Construction of the homes generates a minimum of waste, and they are well insulated and have energy efficient heating systems. The company has also produced sets for the television show Lopez Tonight.
