Harris Teeter Investing $101 Million for Virginia Distribution Center

Grocery chain Harris Teeter will invest $101 million to open a distribution center in King George County, Virginia, according to the Virginia governor's office. The project is expected to create 335 new jobs and will enable the company to expand its services in Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware. "The factors that attracted us to this site were its location, work force potential, and proximity to major highways that supplement our logistics network," says Larry Cooper, vice president of distribution for Harris Teeter. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of North Carolina-headquartered Ruddick corporation. The governor's office says that Virginia competed successfully with sites in North Carolina and Maryland for the project. Incentives offered to Harris Teeter include $200,000 and training assistance from the state.
