Preferred Proppants Opens Oakwood, Oklahoma Sand Mine
10/25/2018
The new logistically advantaged facility is situated between Dewey and Blaine Counties and is located within five miles of two currently active rigs and within 75 miles of most major activity in the region. The site has access to major roads, water and utilities, and consists primarily of 40/70 and 100 mesh high-quality local in-basin supply.
According to company officials, the mine further expanding the Company’s national in-basin sand footprint and continuing its localization strategy aimed at reducing the cost of sand and associated logistics for customers in the region.
Preferred said it is one of the first companies to open an in-basin sand mine to serve the prolific SCOOP, STACK and other Midcontinent formations. This announcement comes on the heels of recent openings of Preferred’s other in-basin mines in South Texas and West Texas, serving the Eagle Ford Shale and Permian Basin.
“The opening of our Oakwood facility marks another key milestone for Preferred as we continue to deliver on our national in-basin strategy,” said Chris Samanns, Senior Vice President, Operations, Preferred Sands. “We look forward to this tremendous opportunity in Oklahoma and remain committed to providing the lowest cost-landed-at-well in the Mid-Con and in all regions we serve.”
Preferred’s industry leading shift away from costly Northern White assets, in combination with the opening of its in-basin sand mines, has enabled the Company to expand aggressively into local, finer sand, company officials explained. With fully operational in-basin facilities now in Oklahoma, West Texas and South Texas, Preferred anticipates growth of more than 7-8 million tons of in-basin capacity.
These facilities, along with Preferred’s legacy plants in Nebraska and Arizona, enable the Company to conveniently and efficiently serve exploration, production and oilfield service companies throughout the most prolific basins in North America, officials said.
With in-basin plants in South Texas, West Texas, and Oklahoma, as well as strategic regional plant locations in Arizona and Nebraska, Preferred Sands services exploration, production and oilfield service companies throughout North America. The company is recognized for its environmental responsibility and achievements in health and safety as an industry-leading operator.
