Germany-Based Hubner Manufacturing Plans $8.6 Million Expansion In Mount Pleasant, South Carolina
12/11/2014
“We are very excited to expand our facility to keep up with the demands of the transportation market and our customers, as well as create new jobs and have a positive economic impact on the area. The support of the state, county, and local government was pivotal in making this project move forward,” said Hubner USA CEO Ron Paquette Hubner USA last expanded its Charleston County operations in 2010. This latest expansion, a 55,261 square-foot addition to the current 100,000 square-foot facility, will allow the company to meet the growing demand for its products. Located at 450 Wando Blvd. in Mount Pleasant, the facility is Hübner’s only U.S. operation. Construction of the facility expansion is expected to be completed by the end of 2015. Hiring for most of the new positions is anticipated to take place in the first quarter of 2016.
Founded in 1995 in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, Hubner USA is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Germany-based Hübner GmbH & Co. KG. Among the company’s product lines are passageway systems for high speed and commuter trains, articulation, passageway and bumper systems for light rail vehicles and trams, folding bellows and articulation systems for articulating buses, canopies for jet gangways and flexible covers and rubber extrusions for applications in public transportation.
As an incentive, the Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved a $350,000 grant for real property improvements and job development credits related to the project.
“Over the last several decades, hundreds of German companies have enjoyed tremendous success within our state’s borders. Hubner Manufacturing Corporation’s decision to expand in Charleston County only adds to this fruitful partnership between Germany and South Carolina,” said Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt.
