General Electric To Invests More Than $11 Million To Transform Its Slater, Missouri, Air Filtration Manufacturing Facility

General Electric plans to invest more than $11 million to expand and transform its air filtration system production facility in Saline County, Missouri, creating 115 new manufacturing jobs.

The firm’s industrial air filtration products help customers achieve air quality and plant performance goals while reducing emissions. In Slater, Missouri, GE manufactures air filtration media and membranes for industrial products and gas turbine inlet systems. Products include pleated filters that collect dust at industrial sites and gas turbine cartridges that keep particles from entering and damaging the turbine.

“The Air Filtration business in Slater is growing. Expanding our workforce and facilities are vital to driving our filtration business to support natural gas power generation in North America,” said Keith White, general manager of GE Power and Water’s Air Filtration business. “We’ve always been proud to be a part of the Slater community,” Plant Manager Grant Carothers said. “With the addition of these 115 jobs, we now employ more than 300 people in Slater. We estimate one out of five households in the area include at least one GE employee.” The manufacturing jobs created include production line positions such as; sewing operators, automated machine operators and a production supervisor.

This year GE invested more than $3 million in production equipment and renovations at its 226,594-square-foot Slater properties, including the conversion of a 50,000-square-foot warehouse into new production space for gas turbine inlet filtration products. The upgrades include HVAC, phone and computer networks, and power line drops.

The filtration manufacturing expansion supports GE’s growing focus on the use of natural gas, the cleanest fossil fuel, for power generation, the company said. GE recently introduced its newest natural gas technology, the FlexEfficiency 60 Portfolio, which incorporates advanced combustion technology to deliver operating flexibility while sustaining higher levels of efficiency compared to earlier technology.

“We are pleased that a global industry leader like GE, which has a long, productive history in the Show-Me State, is expanding its investment in our state and has created 115 new manufacturing jobs,” said Gov. Jay Nixon. “Missouri’s economy continues to move forward with new investments, new jobs and new opportunities for hardworking Missourians.”

As an incentive to assist GE with its expansion plan, the state authorized an economic incentive package that includes $561,626 in Enhanced Enterprise Zone program tax credits over five years. EEZ’s are specifically geographic areas designed by local governments and certified by the Department of Economic Development. Zone designation is based on certain demographic criteria, the potential to create sustainable jobs in a targeted industry and demonstrated impact on local cluster development.
