IBM-SUNY College Nanoscale Science and Engineering Agreement Seen As Major Job Creator For New York State

The job commitments from IBM are part of a joint investment that the company and the state are making in nanotechnology throughout New York State. As part of the agreement, 500 new IBM IT jobs will also be created in Buffalo within the $55 million Buffalo IT Innovation and Commercialization Hub.
Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Office said a major agreement with IBM that will maintain 3,100 high-tech jobs in the Hudson Valley, New York, and surrounding areas. The company committed to increase its minimum job commitment to the state by 750 jobs, and maintain the 3,100 jobs through at least the end of 2016.
“This agreement will keep thousands of high-tech jobs in New York and maintains IBM’s strong commitment to stay and grow in our state,” Governor Cuomo said. “IBM’s presence is an important part of our ongoing advancement in nanotechnology and I applaud their decision preserve thousands of Hudson Valley jobs and expand the company’s high-tech footprint here in New York.”
Representative Sean Patrick Maloney said, “Nothing is more important than creating and preserving good paying jobs right here in the Hudson Valley – especially after many of our neighbors faced devastating layoffs last year. Governor Cuomo has led the charge to ensure IBM keeps their high skilled workforce right here in New York, and I look forward to working in partnership with federal, state, and local officials to ensure that manufacturers like IBM continue to have opportunities to grow their business and create jobs.”
Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro said, “As Dutchess County’s largest private sector employer, IBM remains a vital component of our local, regional and state economy. Today’s announcement is welcome news, and we appreciate the hard work and commitment by Governor Cuomo to bring this agreement to fruition, and we appreciate IBM’s continued investment in Dutchess County. This is indeed great news for the State of New York.”
