03/21/2023
The investment will allow the company to better serve its customers throughout the Americas, with more than 90 percent of the robots delivered to these regions coming from the Michigan operation.
“Our investment is a significant step in accelerating ABB Robotics’ global leadership in developing and manufacturing cutting -edge robotic solutions in the US, for the Americas,” said Sami Atiya, President of ABB Robotics and Discrete Automation. “As the global mega trends of labor shortages, uncertainty, the near and reshoring of production, and a desire to operate more sustainably accelerate, more businesses are turning to automation to build resilience while improving efficiency and flexibility. Our expanded facility will help us to better serve customers in the US and across the Americas, giving them access to innovative automated solutions.”
The project is being supported by a $450,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant. Additionally The company currently utilizes Michigan Works! to reach local talent and partners with local universities, including Oakland University.
“ABB has a successful 30-year history in Oakland County and it’s always gratifying to see a company reinforce its commitment by expanding its footprint even more in Auburn Hills,” noted Oakland County Executive Dave Coulter. “The investment that ABB is making to grow its robotic assembly operations will help ensure a bright future for the 72 new people the company will hire and cement Oakland County’s reputation as a prime location for advanced manufacturing.”
ABB Robotics & Discrete Automation is a pioneer in robotics, machine automation and digital services, providing innovative solutions for a diverse range of industries, from automotive to electronics to logistics.
