Hewlett-Packard Investing $100 Million for Colorado Data Center

Information technology giant Hewlett-Packard Company (HP) plans to invest $100 million to add a data center to its existing operations in Colorado Springs, Colorado, according to the Colorado Springs Gazette. The Gazette reports that the company has asked permission to build the center even as it plans to close a customer service center at that location and eliminate 800 jobs. The company filed a request to build a 251,521-square-foot, two-story building, and the Gazette says plans indicate 40 parking spaces for employees and vendors. The company already operates a 200-employee data center at the Colorado Springs campus that it rents to several clients including DirecTV. The Gazette report says neither HP officials nor Colorado economic development officials would comment on the planned expansion, but a Colorado Springs city planning official says he will likely approve the plan, with minor conditions, by May 5, which would clear the way for HP to obtain a building permit.
