Daimler Trucks Invests $194M in Detroit-area Facility

Daimler Trucks will spend approximately $194 million in a Detroit diesel engine plant, the company announced today. The Michigan Economic Development Corporation has awarded Daimler approximately $57 million in Michigan Economic Growth Authority Awards as part of the total investment. The expansion is a result of heightened demand for Daimler's BlueTec diesel engines.

The production plant, which is located in Redford, Michigan, produces fuel-efficient engines and is the leading supplier of EPA 2010-compliant Class 8 heavy duty trucks.

Much of the investment will be spent on cylinder head production, with other funding going towards redesigning the manufacturing facility, improving plant infrastructure, and purchasing machines and equipment. The expansion is set to begin in July and will continue through September 2011.
