British Technology Contractor Consolidating Operations, Adding Jobs in South Carolina

07/27/2009
BAE Systems, the U.S. subsidiary of Great Britain-headquartered technology consultant BAE Systems plc, will invest $4.5 million to relocate three South Carolina offices to a new space in North Charleston, South Carolina, according the state's Department of Commerce. The company plans to add 75 new jobs this year and 100 more next year, most of them engineering positions that pay between $50,000 and $85,000 per year. BAE Systems designs and runs classified electronics systems, security systems, and communications and information technology networks for such clients as the U.S. Navy, the Internal Revenue Service, and the Federal Aviation Administration; its U.S. headquarters is in Maryland. "We have a long history here, and much of that is due to the caliber of the work force we've been able to attract," says Kris Busch, vice president of BAE Systems' South Carolina operations. "Charleston's famed quality of life is a real magnet in terms of employee recruitment and retention." The Charleston Post and Courier reports that the company will move into its 74,000-square-foot facility, currently under construction, in late September. No information was released regarding financial incentives from the state or local governments.
