Mortara Instrument Plans Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Manufacturing-Distribution Center
08/24/2015
The 64,000-square-foot, air conditioned, high tech facility will consolidate and expand Mortara’s manufacturing and distribution operations which are currently split between the company’s headquarters building and its warehousing operation on Sleske Drive in Milwaukee.
In March 2015 the company purchased a 1.5-acre parcel of land at 8585 W. Bradley Road in Milwaukee, near the company’s existing headquarters. Wisconsin Economic Development officials said the company is committed to growing in Milwaukee and has added 145 jobs since May 2013, bringing its total global workforce to 400. The expansion is part of a larger growth plan that will allow for the creation of more than 150 additional jobs over the next five years.
“I am proud of our continued growth and our increasing prominence in the market and in our community,” said Justin Mortara, CEO of Mortara Instrument. “We’re excited to further invest in our community and truly live out our promise that all Mortara products are – ‘Built with Pride in Milwaukee."
As an incentive to help facilitate the project, the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation authorized Mortara to receive up to $700,000 in state tax credits over a five-year period. The actual amount of credits the company will earn is contingent upon the company meeting specific job creation and wage level requirements.
“This expansion is great news for the City of Milwaukee, the region and the entire state,” said Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch. “As a global company, Mortara had many options for its expansion. I applaud company officials for their continued commitment to growing in Wisconsin.”
“Mortara is a true manufacturing success story, and WEDC is pleased to be able to provide the support that helped make this expansion a reality,” said Reed Hall, Secretary/CEO of WEDC, the state’s lead economic development organization. “Manufacturing is one of the key drivers of the economy in Milwaukee and Wisconsin, and this project is another sign of the strength of that industry.”
