General Motors Expands Its Wentzville, Missouri, Assembly Plant
09/16/2014
GM reported that this third shift is necessary to help with production of the all-new Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon midsize pickups, Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana full-size vans.
The 750 third shift positions are in addition to the 1,315 new jobs at Wentzville that GM committed to with the launch of the new pickups and the addition of a third stamping press – two major investments totaling $513 million, the automaker said.
Wentzville Assembly currently employs approximately 2,600 hourly and salaried workers and operates two production shifts. The third shift is expected to begin in early 2015. Wentzville’s third shift is the latest job-creating action by GM, company officials said. Since June 2009, GM has announced U.S. facility investments of more than $11.2 billion and either protected or added approximately 27,000 jobs.
“Four years ago we came together to pass historic, bipartisan legislation aimed at revitalizing the automotive industry in Missouri,” Governor Jay Nixon said. “Thanks to these efforts and our outstanding skilled workforce, the Show-Me State is now at the forefront of America’s automotive comeback. Today’s announcement by GM that it is expanding its workforce again by creating 750 new jobs is another victory for Missouri workers and our economy.”
