Experts from Deloitte discuss the fact that the United States has the potential to be the next big emerging market for solar and question whether or not the nation will also become a leader in solar manufacturing.
Phil Schneider, Principal at Deloitte Consulting LLP, believes more federal tax credits will be needed to encourage solar manufacturing — especially for foreign companies to build their plants here. Mike Reno, a Partner at Deloitte Tax LLP, agrees that tax incentives are a critical part of the equation, but supply chain considerations will also come into play. And Rebecca Ranich, Director at Deloitte Consulting LLP, says state incentives will also play a part. She notes that legislative initiatives currently taking shape in state and federal governments are encouraging signs that policymakers understand the strategic value of renewable generation for U.S. energy independence.
