Trans-Lux Shifts Production From China To Hazelwood, Missouri

Trans-Lux, a manufacturer of LCD and LED displays, has begun shifting more of its production back to the U.S. from Shenzhen, China, and is relocating to a large warehouse facility at Aviator Business Park in Hazelwood, Missouri.

The company is leasing 66,000 square-feet of space inside a large warehouse facility shared by two other businesses, Silgan Plastics and Weekends Only. Trans-Lux has made a commitment to invest $2.35 million in this new location.

"Yesterday, I spoke with Jean-Marc Allain and Al Shaio, CEO & COO of Trans-Lux. I’m pleased to announce their decision to bring jobs from China to Missouri,” Governor Eric Greitens said. “They will set up operations in Hazelwood, where they expect to create more than 90 new jobs. This is a big win for our state and a vote of confidence from the business community. They are excited about the new direction we are taking in Missouri, and they are going to be strong partners in creating more jobs with higher pay.”

“In a global economy, we aren't just competing against other states, we're in a contest with the rest of the world. I will fight every single day to make sure Missouri is at the top of the list when new jobs are on the table,” he added. Over half of Trans-Lux’s production already occurs in a 68,000 square-foot plant in Des Moines, Iowa. The company’s Fair-Play division currently has two separate operations there. One of those manufacturing operations will be relocating to Hazelwood along with most, if not all, of its production workload in China.

According to state officials, Trans-Lux’s manufacturing history includes 96 years of innovation. It was the first pioneer of electronic ticker technology and installed its system at the New York Stock Exchange in 1923. The company still manages the electronic ticker boards, making it the longest serving vendor to the NYSE. With an annual revenue of $25 million, Trans-Lux has diversified its product line by producing screens used for major league stadiums, high school scoreboards and Las Vegas gaming venues.

The addition of this profitable company not only strengthens our City’s industrial base, but it’s bringing more good paying jobs to our local workforce as well,” said Hazelwood City Manager Matthew Zimmerman. “Hazelwood is uniquely positioned to welcome these type of companies with the expansion of industrial warehouse space at Aviator Business Park and Hazelwood Logistics Center, as well as Park 370.”
