GE Transportation Chooses Chicago As Its Global Headquarters
06/04/2012
Erie, Pennsylvania will remain the headquarters for GE Transportation's global locomotive business and key manufacturing site.
"We have transformed GE Transportation from a North American rail company to a truly global transportation business," said Lorenzo Simonelli, President and Chief Executive Officer of GE Transportation. "Chicago allows us to more efficiently reach and serve customers around the world in the rail, mining and marine industries."
Chicago is one of the most important railroad and transportation centers in the United States. GE Transportation will relocate about 50 people from Erie to Chicago over the next two years. The company anticipates having a headquarters staff of approximately 150 in Chicago by 2014 as the business continues to grow, he added. A Chicago location has not been selected.
Gov. Pat Quinn said: "Illinois is one of the most important rail and transportation hubs in the nation. By choosing Chicago for its global headquarters, GE Transportation will be positioned to compete fiercely in the U.S. and all over the world to grow in the rail, mining and marine industries. We are pleased to welcome members of GE Transportation's leadership team to Illinois and Chicago."
