Sea Pac Plans $32 Million Expansion In Charleston County, South Carolina
10/13/2015
Established by Jon McClure last year, Sea Pac’s Lowcountry operations will be the company’s first. The company is constructing a 1.5-million-square-foot facility on 107 acres of undeveloped land on U.S. Highway 78 in Ladson, S.C. With civil engineering work already underway, McClure plans to build an export hub for plastic pellets that are used for consumer goods, from milk jugs to toys and cars.
“The first objective was to secure the site, one close enough to the port with rail access. Our goal is to have the first 400,000 to 650,000-square-foot building completed by mid-2017,” said Sea Pac, LLC Jon McClure.
In selecting the Palmetto State, the company cited South Carolina’s tremendous global connectivity, which features access to the nation’s most productive port.
“South Carolina Ports Authority welcomes Sea Pac to the Charleston region and looks forward to serving the export needs of their customers with our deepwater harbor. Plastics resins are a key commodity sector for the SCPA and a significant component of the Port’s planned above-market volume growth,” said S.C. Ports Authority President/CEO Jim Newsome.
“Our congratulations go out to Mr. McClure and Sea Pac, LLC on this exciting new facility in Ladson. This project adds new jobs in the northern section of our county, while also jump-starting the re-development of this major industrial complex. The intermodal advantages which Norfolk Southern and the Port of Charleston offer Sea Pac will translate into success both for the company and for our community,” said Charleston County Council Chairman J. Elliott Summey.
