Central States Manufacturing Expands Building Products Production to South Dakota
04/18/2012
"The land was identified for economic development, and Central States Manufacturing will now serve as the anchor in a new industrial park," Gov. Dennis Daugaard said. "I hope this expansion will serve as a catalyst for additional development in the Hartford area."
The decision to locate in Hartford was made after the company did a multi-state search for a location in the northern Great Plains region, the Governor said.
"The decision to open our sixth manufacturing plant in Hartford, S.D., was influenced by the agricultural focus in the region, as well as its recent and projected growth," said Donna Leger, President, Central States Manufacturing.
"In order to provide our customers with the best service and for us to extend our delivery service north, an additional manufacturing facility was needed. We are excited about this opportunity and look forward to supporting the growth of the northern Great Plains and the community of Hartford," she said.
South Dakota's central location, solid business climate and availability of skilled workers made Hartford an ideal location, local economic development officials said. As an incentive, the state will provide workforce development funds to train new employees at the Hartford facility. Local officials can also provide special property tax classifications on new industrial and commercial structures.
"On behalf of the City of Hartford, I would like to welcome Central States Manufacturing to our community, and we thank them for selecting our city," said Hartford Mayor Paul Zimmer. Zimmer said this was a real team effort, citing a partnership among the company, the Governor's Office of Economic Development, Hartford Area Economic Development Corporation, and the City of Hartford.
The Hartford location will be the company's sixth expansion since 1988. Headquartered in Lowell, Arkansas, Central States Manufacturing also has manufacturing plants in Michigan City, Indiana; Cedar Hill, Texas; Jasper, Alabama; and Mount Airy, North Carolina.
