Allison Transmission Invests $130M in Indianapolis Facility

Allison Transmission, a provider of commercial and military automatic transmissions and hybrid propulsion systems, has dedicated a new hybrid manufacturing facility in Indianapolis, Indiana. The company will invest more than $130 million to build a new generation of hybrid propulsion products.

"Allison Transmission and the Department of Energy have worked together for many years in programs which have pushed transportation technology and resulted in the production of real products which benefit us all," said company Chairman and CEO Lawrence E. Dewey.

The company expects to hire up to 100 workers and produce more than 20,000 systems annually at full capacity.

Last August Allison received a $62.8 million matching grant from the U.S. Department of Energy under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The company has produced hybrid propulsion systems for city buses since 2003.
