Akron, Ohio Establishes "Biotechnology Bridge" With Helsinki, Finland
04/28/2010
Plusquellic said the partnership's mission is to act as "collaborative partners."
"We will work to establish mutual benefits in the areas of biomedical research and life science technology commercialization," Plusquellic said. "It means that Akron companies can come to Helsinki to improve opportunities for increased sales to the European Union market."
Pajunen said Helsinki companies seeking to locate in the U.S. could find assistance through the initiative.
"Through this new collaboration project, such companies have the opportunity of reaching the local science and hospital network and financiers," Pajunen said. "On the other hand, there is a great interest in getting U.S. companies to settle in Helsinki."
The Akron Global Business Accelerator and the Helsinki Business & Science Park will execute the project. Since 2006, when Plusquellic established the Akron Biomedical Corridor, the area has received national recognition for healthcare, biomedical research, medical devices, and orthopedic excellence.
