10/24/2012
The firm said the office is dedicated to creating new cutting-edge products, solutions and services. The goal of this enhanced product innovation effort is to supplement the connectivity and value global MTN customers have realized for more than 30 years. MTN said it is hiring software developers and engineers with exceptional technology skills to build its next-generation communications infrastructure and network, as well as the products it will enable.
"The mission of the MTN Product Innovation team is to extend our commitment to service excellence that we initiated more than 30 years ago," said Errol Olivier, president and CEO, MTN. "Social networking sites and mobile devices, such as tablets and smartphones, are fueling more high-data consumption. This has generated farther-reaching customer requirements, whether delivered through satellite, Wi-Fi, cloud computing or other technologies. The MTN Product Innovation Team is dedicated to anticipating needs with new options that optimize both our current and next-generation platforms. MTN intends to continue leading delivery of Internet, content and social media at sea in ways never before imagined."
Bob Wise, chief innovation officer at MTN, is leading the company's Seattle office efforts and brings several decades of experience in cloud, mobile, internet and telephony technologies."
While the firm plans to increase the size of its workforce to 20, Wise said "recruiting talent from a region known for technology trailblazing is key. Our Product Innovation Team is charged to raise the bar on ways customers can connect to people, content and applications. Seattle is one of the best places in the world to recruit talent with experience in cloud computing, mobile technology and advanced communications. As MTN has for more than three decades, we plan to surprise the market with exceptional advances in consumer and enterprise connectivity."
MTN, which did not release the cost of its investment, offers services and solutions to cruise lines, commercial ships, mobile and fixed oil and gas vessels, mega yachts, government entities and aviation customers. MTN delivers and supports a broad array of integrated turnkey services, including remote access for Internet, VoIP, voice services, remote IT management, global vessel tracking, bandwidth optimization, real-time video capabilities, crew calling solutions, and other enterprise solutions.
