Murphy’s Naturals Expands Operations at Raleigh, North Carolina Plant

07/01/2020
Murphy’s Naturals, a mosquito repellant company, is preparing to double operation at its production plant in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Murphy’s Naturals CEO Philip Freeman said the company’s recent success is due, in part, to its pivoting to produce a hand sanitizer line to meet the need caused by the COVID19 pandemic, along with an important infusion of federal Paycheck Protection Program funds. PPP Funds allowed the company to pay and even slightly increase its workforce, even when faced with the loss of retail business due to COVID19.

Demand for the firm’s hand sanitizer continues to grow. “Initially, we were thinking this might be a short-term need,” he said, according to the Research Triangle Regional Partnership. “But based off of everything I’m seeing, I think it’s going to a longer-term need.”

Murphy’s recently invested in new filling equipment, which will allow it to produce about 10,000 bottles of hand sanitizer a day.

“We’re up over almost 100 percent year to date on Amazon,” he said. “That’s really big growth for us considering 75 percent of our business comes through online sales.”
