ACX Pacific Northwest Invests $4.7 Million To Establish Goldsboro, North Carolina Production facility

ACX Pacific Northwest Inc. is investing $4.7 million establish a new facility in Goldsboro, North Carolina, with plans to create 38 jobs over the next three years in Wayne County.

Based in California, the company is a supplier of long-fiber forage and roughage products including alfalfa hay, timothy hay, Sudangrass, oat hay and grass hay. Its products are sold to the dairy, beef, horse, camel, goat and animal feed industries located in Asia and the Middle East. In a boost to the local economy, ACX plans to purchase hay products, such as Bermuda grass, directly from North Carolina farmers.

“ACX is looking forward to working with farmers in North Carolina to transition the abundant Bermuda grass byproduct into a long-term, viable source of feed for our customers and partners overseas,” said John M. Gombos, president and CEO of ACX.

The project was made possible in part by a $60,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund, said Gov. Bev Perdue. “This announcement also strengthens our state’s agriculture industry by increasing opportunities to get North Carolina grown crops to market.”

The One NC Fund provides financial assistance, through local governments, to attract business projects that will stimulate economic activity and create new jobs in the state. Companies receive no money up front and must meet job creation and investment performance standards to qualify for grant funds. These grants also require and are contingent upon local matches.

The Governor’s Office said other partners that helped with this project include: the N.C. Department of Commerce, N.C. Community Colleges, Wayne County, City of Goldsboro, North Carolina’s Southeast and the Wayne County Development Alliance.
