Aemerge RedPak Builds Medical Waste Treatment Plant In Hesperia, California
11/16/2016
According to city officials, RedPak safely treats medical waste in a manner that utilizes the waste as a medium to produce power and produces recycled treated metals. RedPak is the only facility in California permitted to treat all types of medical waste as regulated by the CA Department of Public Health (CDPH).
More than 90% of the waste processed through the facility will be landfill diverted and, as a result, significant greenhouse gas emissions associated with waste hauling are eliminated. This is accomplished using an energy efficient patented technology – the “Carbonizer” – for the treatment and elimination of medical waste for which a significant portion cannot, by law, be treated in the State of California.
According to company officials, “Aemerge RedPak’s patented Carbonizer treatment system is approved by the California Department of Public Health, Medical Waste Management Program, and the governing air quality management district for the treatment of all types of Medical Waste, including pharmaceutical, pathological, trace chemo, sharps and biohazardous, as well as all other matter so classified.”
This new plant is expected to be operational by the end of first quarter 2017. RedPak will transport the modularly configured Carbonizer by tractor-trailer for final outdoor assembly on the site. Once complete, RedPak will operate two shifts and create 20 new jobs within the community, city officials said.
“The City is committed to bringing more employment options to our residents," said Hesperia Mayor Bill Holland, “so it is important to note that Aemerge RedPak offers mortgage-paying jobs to the residents of the High Desert.”
The processing plant is being developed on 4.5 acres in the industrially-zoned area of the City. The location was proposed by Hesperia’s Economic Development Department during a site search for Aemerge. Initially the focus was on the existing industrial buildings, but expansion plans were implemented to encompass the adjacent property, doubling the scope of the project.
“Hesperia has targeted several industries for our business attraction efforts, including manufacturing. We are pleased to see Aemerge, a green technology manufacturing company, locate in Hesperia,” said Rod Yahnke, Economic Development Manager.
