NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises’ plans to build its new $250 million global headquarters in Miami-Dade County, Florida.

According to state officials, NBCUniversal and parent company Comcast will create 150 new jobs for Florida families. The new building will initially house 1,100 employees, with the capacity to expand to approximately 1,300.

NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises’ new headquarters will bring all of the division’s offices, broadcast and production operations under one roof including the Telemundo Network, Telemundo Studios and Telemundo International, as well as its cable network NBC UNIVERSO, its digital media operations. The company will be poised to provide Spanish-language programming and multiplatform connections to the growing US Hispanic market and audiences around the world.

“This is a very important step in the evolution of our company at a time when we’re enjoying tremendous momentum and have just wrapped a record-breaking year,” said Cesar Conde, Chairman of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises and NBCUniversal International Group. “Our new global headquarters will fold all of our division’s offices and production studio spaces into one state-of-the-art facility that will help us do business in a more collaborative way. This significant investment clearly underscores once again NBCUniversal’s and Comcast’s long term commitment to our business and the U.S. Hispanic market.”

The Telemundo expansion was made possible through partnerships between Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, Miami-Dade County, the Beacon Council and Enterprise Florida.

Governor Rick Scott said, “I am excited to announce that NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises has chosen Miami as the best location to build their new global headquarters and create 150 new Florida jobs. By cutting $1 billion in taxes and creating the new $250 million Florida Enterprise Fund this year, we will make Florida more competitive so companies like Telemundo will continue to grow and create jobs for our families.”

Bill Johnson, President/CEO of Enterprise Florida, said, “NBCUniversal Telemundo’s decision to build its new global headquarters in Miami is fantastic news for Florida. The new global headquarters will also bring with it 150 new jobs, creating opportunities for South Florida families. I look forward to NBCUniversal Telemundo’s continued success in helping us make Florida the number one state for business.”

Department of Economic Opportunity Executive Director Cissy Proctor said, “Florida is proud to count Telemundo as a Florida-based company that reaches audiences all over the world. The new jobs and capital investment provided by Telemundo’s recent expansion will help ensure more Floridians have the opportunity to get a job and live the American Dream.”

Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez, Miami-Dade County, said, “This is great news for Miami-Dade County and Telemundo. Telemundo has been a major employer in our community for decades and its continued growth is further evidence that the company is clearly an industry leader and that Miami-Dade County continues to be a world-class community where people want to live and companies of all sizes and across all industries want to be located and expand in.”

“Telemundo’s new global headquarters solidifies Miami’s position as a major media hub along with Los Angeles and New York,” The Beacon Council President/CEO Larry K. Williams said. “Miami’s rapid growth in this burgeoning industry provides new opportunities for high paying, highly skilled jobs for our residents.”
