GM Scraps Plans for Buick Crossover Due to Poor Reviews

Less than two weeks after announcing plans to produce a compact crossover vehicle under the Buick brand name, General Motors Company (GM) has killed the project. The Detroit Free Press reports that GM brought in approximately 100 consumers, along with industry analysts and automotive journalists, for a "sneak peek" at the product and it received poor reviews. "We were all struck by the consistency of the criticism of the compact crossover," says Tim Stephens, GM's vice chair for product development, quoted in the Free Press. "And what we decided to do in response is a good example of the essence of the new General Motors...acting quickly, and boldly, and listening to feedback from customers, employees, dealers, media, and just about anyone else with an opinion." Stephens says the decision to cancel the vehicle was made last Friday by the company's executive committee. Plans had been to eventually offer the vehicle with hybrid plug-in technology; instead, GM says it will apply the technology to another vehicle, with details to be released at a later date.
