The Vico Co. Closing Sumter, South Carolina Auto Site
"It's certainly unfortunate for the people employed at the facility, and we are never pleased when another U.S. company decides that they can be more profitable in another country," said Jay Schwedler, president and CEO of the Sumter Development Board. "We will continue to work hard to identify jobs and investment for the community, and we are confident there is good news on the manufacturing front coming in the next couple of months."
The closure of Bosch Braking System in Sumter and its move to Mexico may have led to Vico's decision, Vico General Manager John Tipton said, as Bosch was a leading supplier to the company.
Vico will shut down the facility and move all supplies to Mexico by September 30.
