Cummins, Indiana Engine Manufacturer, invests $220 Million In Expansion, Expected To Create 290 Jobs

With expectations that exports of its high-horsepower engine will increase, Cummins officials said the company plans to build a new assembly line, warehouse, office building and engineering and testing facilities at its southern Indiana plant in Seymour on East 3rd Street .
"The high-horsepower business is a growing part of Cummins and because of the demand for these products throughout the world we are able to add new high-skilled engineering and manufacturing jobs here in our home region," said Cummins Chairman and CEO Tom Linebarger.
The Columbus-based company, unveiled a new 8 feet high,14 feet long, 4,000-horsepower high-speed diesel engine last year, designed to power locomotives, boats, mining trucks and offshore oil and gas platforms.
Cummins said it expects to start hiring new engineering and support workers this year and to fill the additional jobs by 2015.
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation said Cummins is eligible to receive up to $250,000 in job development and training grants. In addition, the Indiana Department of Transportation will also assist in funding of infrastructure improvements and the firm requested city tax abatements.
