Biewer Lumber Expands Newton, Mississippi, Saw Mill Operation
11/21/2018
The company opened its Newton facility, which is officially known as Biewer Sawmill-Newton LLC, in 2016, expanding the company’s mill production into the South. Biewer Lumber’s expansion involves an investment in new equipment and an addition to its existing facility. The company also operates four sawmills in the Midwest, as well as three lumber treating/distribution centers.
“In order to be competitive, you have to keep up with technology and demand. There is no better place than Newton, Mississippi to make this investment,” said Biewer Lumber President & CEO Tim Biewer. “We are proud to be part of this great community.”
Mississippi Development Authority is providing assistance in support of the project for public road improvements. The city of Newton is also assisting with the project.
“With approximately 20 million acres of forestland in Mississippi, Biewer Lumber has found the formula for success in our state,” said MDA Executive Director Glenn McCullough, Jr. “Our abundance of natural resources enables agribusiness companies like Biewer Lumber to achieve their goals and make new capital investment creating additional career opportunities for Mississippians.
“Since opening its sawmill in Newton two short years ago, Biewer Lumber has been an active and supportive member of the Mississippi business community. The company’s expansion and creation of 45 new jobs speaks volumes to the strong business environment found throughout our state, an environment that fosters growth and innovation for all of Mississippi’s corporate partners,” Governor Phil Bryant said.
