Brazilian Manufacturer Opening First U.S. Plant in North Carolina

09/04/2008
Providencia USA Inc., a subsidiary of a Brazilian manufacturer of non-woven plastic sheeting materials, will invest US$115 million to build its first U.S. manufacturing facility in Statesville, North Carolina, according to the North Carolina governor's office. At least 90 new jobs will be created with the project over the next three years, at an average annual salary of $41,835 plus benefits. "Providencia's decision to establish itself in North Carolina was based on the state's excellent quality of life, skilled work force, pro-business environment, and its location central to our target markets," says Herminio V.S. de Freitas, the company's CEO. Providencia's parent company is Companhia Providencia Industria e Comercio, which currently operates two facilities in Brazil.
