Toyota Plans Major Expansion at Assembly Plant in San Antonio, Texas

According to company officials the expansion is part of Toyota's broader commitment to invest $ 13 billion in its operations in the United States for five years until 2021. This new investment also brings with it a commitment from Toyota Texas to continue financing the development of local labor, a need of the community that the company has supported for a long time.
"Our presence in the United States goes back more than 60 years and we have created a tremendous value chain in this country, in addition to establishing a vast presence in Alamo City since 2003," said Chris Reynolds, Managing Director of Manufacturing & Corporate Resources at Toyota Motor North America. "With 10 plants in the United States, a network of 1,500 dealers, an extensive supply chain and other operations, we directly and indirectly employ more than 475,000 Americans and are committed to investing here."
This new investment in Toyota Texas is made in response to strong customer demand; Company officials said it will allow the plant to be even more competitive in the long term and also more efficient, while remaining flexible with production capabilities for multiple vehicles through Introduction of various advanced manufacturing technologies.
Separately, Aisin AW, a supplier of Toyota Texas and other vehicle manufacturers, announced that it will invest $ 400 million and create 900 new jobs at a future facility in the nearby town of Cibolo, Texas.

"Its combined new investments of nearly $ 800 million in the San Antonio area are testament to the unparalleled workforce and Texas's commitment to create an environment where businesses can flourish free from the heavy hand of regulations and excessive taxes.”

It is exactly the kind of project for which our city has been strategically preparing, it shows that we are a competitive region ready to receive large investments from large manufacturers," said Ron Nirenberg, Mayor of San Antonio. "Toyota's investment in our people and in our city creates opportunities that can change the lives of an entire generation."

This latest investment demonstrates the company's commitment to our future," said Nelson Wolff, Bexar County Judge. "In addition, Toyota has partnered with Bexar County to develop TXFAME, an innovative program to develop technicians in advanced manufacturing. Our workforce makes us competitive for large global manufacturers, we have what it takes to help them grow and prosper. in the south central region of Texas."
This is Toyota's third investment in its San Antonio truck plant, where Tundra full-size and medium-sized Tacoma pickup trucks are assembled. The facility directly employs more than 3,200 team members. With the inclusion of its 23 suppliers on site, total employment at the plant site exceeds 7,200 jobs.
