MDS Manufacturing Expands Its Parkston, South Dakota, Operations Center With State Loan Incentive
10/31/2013
The firm is expanding its operations with an incentive provided by a state Revolving Economic Development and Initiative Fund Loan.
“Knowing our state is committed to economic development made our decision to expand an easy one,” said Steve Hohn, President of MDS. “Thanks to the funding from the REDI Fund Loan Program, we were able to purchase the necessary equipment to make our organization more efficient and allow us to meet the production needs required to fill the orders we are faced with. Our expansion will create jobs in Parkston and as we all know, that is key to the economic engine of any community.”
“Agriculture is South Dakota’s number one industry. It generates economic activity and employs many South Dakotans,” said Gov. Dennis Daugaard. “With an industry that large, we need companies like MDS who serve the agricultural community. I hope this loan will help MDS to expand and create more jobs so they can continue to produce the things our farmers and ranchers need.”
Steve, Brian and Brad Hohn operate the family-owned company which was established in 1976. According to David Lambert, Director of Regional Development for the Parkston Area Development Corporation, all three Hohn brothers are loyal to Parkston and actively involved in the community. They serve on the city council and various boards, they are involved with the Parkston Commercial Club and they also assist with renovation projects at city parks and high school athletic programs.
“The Hohn family is incredibly gracious. Growth can cause a business to consider different locations. However, they chose to stay in Parkston,” said Lambert. “Business expansion is important to MDS and because Steve and his brothers have a vision and passion for the business and their community, they recognize the value of local economic development.”
