Anthro Energy Plans Louisville, Kentucky, Manufacturing Operations
12/22/2025
The company’s new 25 GWh advanced electrolyte manufacturing facility will be capable of producing 12,000 metric tons annually.
"As a Kentucky native, I'm especially proud to bring this project home," said Joe Papp, Chief Technology Officer of Anthro Energy. "This facility represents more than innovation; it represents a commitment to building advanced energy solutions on American soil, with American talent. By onshoring critical battery-supply-chain infrastructure, we're strengthening both our national security and our industrial base. We look forward to contributing to Kentucky's leadership in the advanced battery economy and ensuring that this essential technology is built here at home, where it belongs."
To support the project the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority (KEDFA) preliminarily approved a 10-year incentive agreement with the company under the Kentucky Business Investment program. The performance-based agreement can provide up to $2 million in tax incentives based on the company’s investment of $42.1 million and meeting annual wage and job targets, including the creation and maintenance of 110 Kentucky-resident, full-time jobs across 10 years. Additionally, KEDFA approved Anthro Energy for up to $340,000 in tax incentives through the Kentucky Enterprise Initiative Act (KEIA). KEIA allows approved companies to recoup Kentucky sales and use tax on construction costs, building fixtures, equipment used in research and development and electronic processing.
"Anthro Energy's investment is a win for Louisville and a win for Kentucky," noted Governor Andy Beshear. "This project reflects our state's growing leadership in the advanced energy economy and our commitment to attracting high-tech, future-ready manufacturing jobs. We're proud to support a company that's bringing innovation, opportunity, and momentum to the Commonwealth."
By meeting its annual targets over the agreement term, the company can be eligible to keep a portion of the new tax revenue it generates. The company may claim eligible incentives against its income tax liability and/or wage assessments. In addition to these incentives, Anthro is eligible for other state and local grants and can access resources from Kentucky’s workforce service providers. Those include no-cost recruitment and job placement services, reduced-cost customized training and job-training incentives.
"This project puts Louisville at the center of two national priorities: energy independence and high-tech manufacturing," added Trevor Pawl, CEO of the Louisville Economic Development Alliance. "Anthro's investment marks a major step forward in our city's evolution as a hub for advanced materials and battery supply chain innovation. We're excited to welcome them to the South End and look forward to supporting their growth in Louisville.”
Anthro Energy develops advanced polymer electrolytes that make lithium-ion batteries safer, more energy-dense, and flexible. The company’s technology, Anthro Proteus™, allows batteries to integrate into device shapes like straps, improving capacity and comfort while reducing swelling and flammability.
