GM Drives New Jobs to Arizona

07/12/2007
General Motors (GM) and the U.S. Army have signed a deal to jointly use the Yuma Proving Grounds in Yuma, Arizona, as a hot weather vehicle testing track for GM vehicles. The agreement will retain GM's 70-year presence in Arizona and provice at least 155 new jobs in the Yuma area. The company plans to relocate its current testing site from Mesa to Yuma and invest $120 million to refurbish the new site, which it will lease from the Army. Yuma county officials anticipate a $500 million positive economic impact over the next 10 years for the area.
