American Manufacturers Still Not Locating in the U.S.
According to the council, American companies would prefer to locate in the United States, the uncompetitive cost structure prevents these investments.
While Boston-based American Superconductor Corp. has created 750 jobs in the past four years, the bulk of the job gains have been in China. The company has directly created 250 jobs in China, and its direct Chinese partners have created another 5,000 jobs. American Superconductor President Dan McGahn estimates that the supply chain created by the company created about 50,000 jobs, all in China.
