Med Tech Leader Expanding in Tennessee

Global medical technology company Smith & Nephew will expand its operations in Memphis, Tennessee, with a 210,000-square-foot distribution facility to be built at the Memphis Logistics and Technology center (MELTECH). Memphis-based Belz Architecture & Construction, a division of Belz Enterprises, will provide design-build services for the expansion, which will be built to the 2006 International Building Code seismic code standards. It will include a 1,200-square-foot clean room and provide climate control and backup generators. Company officials expect construction to be completed by next summer. Headquartered in London, Smith & Nephew manufactures medical devices with specialties in orthopedics, endoscopy, and wound management. Their existing Memphis orthopedic facility employs approximately 1,800 people.
