At least nine states are considering proposals for truck-only lanes on interstate highways. The hope is this will reduce congestion, improve safety, and increase commerce by speeding goods on their way.

Georgia is considering truck-only lanes on interstates around Atlanta (I-75 and I-285) because truck congestion in this area is expected to increase by 60 percent in the next 20 years.

Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, and Missouri are proposing a truck-only lane on a 789-mile stretch of I-70, which goes through Kansas City, St. Louis, Indianapolis, and Columbus and is also within 25 miles of six major international airports. And their is a proposal to improve I-10 - a 2,650-mile highway that crosses eight states between Florida and California.
