Canada Increases Commitment to Renewable Fuels

"This initiative is one of Canada's contributions to the fight against climate change," said Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Gerry Ritz. "We are proud to be moving forward with the Renewable Fuels Regulations as they will benefit Canada's economy, our farmers, and our environment."
The move is just the latest step in Canada's Renewable Fuels Strategy, which establishes a demand for renewable fuels to stimulate in-country production of biofuels, create jobs, and open market opportunities for farmers.
The so-called "5-percent Rule" is comparable to eliminating 250,000 cars from Canada's roads, according to former Minister of the Environment John Baird.
