Study: CEOs’ Goals Out of Sync With Senior Execs

02/26/2008
When it comes to business priorities, a communication gap exists between CEOs and the senior executives who report to them, according to survey by Dissero Partners. More than 50 percent of 115 senior executives in the Dissero survey identified focus and alignment as their companies' primary goals. The study then compares this result to a recent Conference Board survey in which CEOs identified excellence in execution, top-line growth, and consistent execution of strategy as their primary concerns. "Less than half of employees understand their company's strategic goals, and only 43 percent believe there is every any follow-through on planned strategy shifts," says Michael Kanazawa, CEO of Dissero Partners, a business advisory firm. "What CEOs see as a lack of execution is more likely a symptom. The root cause is a combination of too many initiatives being called out as top priorities and a lack of alignment across organizational boundaries." The study concludes that CEOs and their teams would benefit from developing tighter strategic focuses and limited core initiatives, and in engaging their teams in aligning their work toward common goals.
