Rhode Island-based Electric Boat To Hire 450 New Workers
05/25/2010
Electric Boat, a subsidiary of General Dynamics Corporation, will hire approximately 100 welders, pipe-fitters, electricians, and sheet-metal workers just this year, according to Electric Boat President John Casey. The total hiring will bring the company's work force from 2,000 to 2,450. It expects to add 750 employees by 2014.
"These will be good jobs with good benefits," Casey told the Journal.
Yesterday, Electric Boat announced the completion of a revamped 65,000-square-foot warehouse to accommodate its submarine construction. The company invested $5 million in the refurbishment. For the second phase of construction, it will invest $45 million to expand a Quonset manufacturing facility, and construct a new $9.7 million building for blast and coating operations.
