Raytheon Expands Portsmouth, Rhode Island, Missile Defense Operations

06/13/2026
Defense technology company Raytheon plans to expand its operations in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. The $100 million project is expected to create 150 jobs.

The investment will increase the company’s missile defense complex to accelerate testing of the Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor (LTAMDS) radar and increase production capacity for Patriot GEM-T missile subcomponents.

“This investment strengthens our ability to deliver critical air and missile defense capabilities to customers around the world,” said Tom Laliberty, President of Land & Air Defense Systems at Raytheon. “Expanding in Portsmouth allows us to scale production, advance LTAMDS testing, and ensure the U.S. Army and our international partners receive these systems as quickly as possible.”

Raytheon, an RTX business, develops advanced defense technologies for military and government customers worldwide. The company’s products include missile defense systems, radar technologies, sensors, and integrated air and missile defense solutions. Its Portsmouth campus supports undersea technology, combat systems, and radar programs.

"When companies choose to invest in Rhode Island, they’re investing in our workforce and our communities," noted Governor Dan McKee. "Raytheon’s $100 million expansion in Portsmouth will create about 150 new high-skilled jobs, helping more Rhode Islanders build careers, raise families and succeed right here at home."
