Energy Company Adding 900 Jobs in North Carolina

05/27/2008
GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy Americas LLC, a manufacturer of advanced reactors and nuclear services, will invest more than $700 million in its campus near Wilmington, North Carolina, to expand operations. The project is expected to add 900 new jobs over the next five years at an average overall wage of $85,000 per year, more than double the average in that area. The company plans to add new manufacturing, training, simulation, and testing facilities at the campus, possibly including a commercial uranium-enrichment facility that would use the company's exclusive laser process. State and local incentives for the project could total over $25 million if the company maintains its employment levels. The company maintains a partnership with Cape Fear Community College in which students enrolled in a two-year degree program in nuclear utility maintenance and repair receive free tuition and a stipend in exchange for a two-year commitment to work for the company upon graduation.
