Medical Manufacturer Expanding in Indiana

Zimmer Holdings, Inc., a manufacturer and global distributor of orthopedic devices, will expand its operations in Warsaw, Indiana, with a $19 million investment that will create 100 new jobs by 2011. The company plans to add approximately 50,000 square feet to its foundry operations, adding more automation with the goal of increasing annual output by 1.3 million castings per year. "We are making a number of quality and infrastructure investments to prepare Zimmer to compete in the healthcare markets of the future," says David Dvorak, the company's president and CEO. "The demand for joint replacements continues to grow worldwide and we are pleased to be adding this state-of-the-art foundry to our Warsaw facilities to address growth in a very cost-effective manner." The state has offered financial incentives to Zimmer Holdings of at least $400,000 in performance-based tax credits. The company plans to begin hiring engineers, supervisors, and machine operators next year.
