New National Cloud Computing Campus to Add Jobs to Somerset, NJ, Region

08/15/2011
SHI International, a $3 billion woman-owned technology firm based in New Jersey, has announced it is transforming a former AT&T facility into a state-of-the-art, national cloud computing center--and its world headquarters.

The building rehab, currently the largest interior commercial renovation in New Jersey, generated 500 construction jobs during the design and fit-out phase of the work, which has taken 15 months to complete.

Employees will begin occupying the new facility the end of August. Eventually it will be home to nearly 1,000 of the company's 1,700 employees working around the world.

SHI's new headquarters and data center are part of a strategic investment by SHI to capitalize on the fast-growing cloud computing industry, projected to reach $9.4 billion by 2015. In preparation, the firm has been adding staff. Since 2008, SHI has created 700 new jobs globally, including over 100 highly technical positions based in NJ and more than 200 sales and management positions in Austin, TX, to serve an expanding global market.

"We could have located our new industrial-grade cloud computing center anywhere, but we chose New Jersey because of our own history and the quality of the local talent we have enjoyed since our founding in 1989," says Thai Lee, president and CEO of SHI International.
