Samsung Selects London, Ontario, for New Manufacturing Facility to Employ 200 Workers
09/12/2011
When operational, the facility will fulfill Samsung's manufacturing commitment under its Green Energy Investment Act (GEIA) Agreement with the Government of Ontario. Under GEIA's terms, Samsung (and its partners) will spend $7 billion in new investment in Ontario to create 16,000 jobs-and seed a new provincial industry expected to generate 2,500 megawatts of clean energy.
Cheol-Woo Lee, Samsung C&T Senior Executive Vice President, said his firm is moving forward aggressively to fulfill its commitment to induce new green manufacturing in Ontario. Samsung is helping build "the world's largest cluster of wind and solar power, putting Ontario on the global clean energy map," he added.
To date, Samsung and its partners have invested over $150 million in Ontario, and finalized more than 1,000 land agreements with farmers and landowners.
This past August, Samsung signed six Power Purchase Agreement contracts with the Ontario Power Authority; bringing closer to reality plans to have the first solar and wind projects operational in 2014 (and producing 1,070 megawatts of clean power).
