Powertrain Manufacturer's Expansion to Create About 70 Jobs in Mississippi

09/14/2011
BorgWarner, a global powertrain supplier, has announced it's expanding operations at its Water Valley, Mississippi, facility with a multi-million-dollar investment creating 67 jobs. By adding new equipment and a clean room, the project will help the firm fulfill a contract with a U.S. automaker needing next-generation transmission control solenoids.

When the company expanded its Water Valley plant in 2010, it firm created 120 new jobs and brought its workforce up to about 420 employees.

Based in Auburn Hills, Michigan, BorgWarner is a technology leader in highly engineered components and systems for powertrain applications worldwide. It operates manufacturing and technical facilities in 59 locations in 19 countries.

Assistance with construction of the clean room will be provided by both funding from Yalobusha County, and the Momentum Mississippi Incentives program administered by the Mississippi Development Authority (MDA).

Leland Speed, executive director of MDA, said the company's latest expansion "is remarkable, particularly given the current economy, and I am grateful to the company for its continued investment in our state and in our workforce."
