Green Textile Manufacturer Opening Facility in North Carolina

05/05/2009
Sustainable Textile Group LLC, a manufacturer of fabric made from pre-consumer waste, will invest $11 million to open a production plant in China Grove, North Carolina, according to the North Carolina governor's office. The company plans to create 223 new jobs at an average annual salary of $29,141 plus benefits. Sustainable Textile will move into a vacant textile factory, where the company will produce yarms from regenerated fibers. "The common misconception is that 'green' always costs more. It is our goal to produce items that are first of all better products, cost the same or less, and are sustainable. Utilizing 'waste' as a raw materials, we create high-quality products that are then sold globally," says Joy Nunn, CEO of Circle LLC, parent company of Sustainable Textiles. "With the assistance of Governor Bev Perdue and local leaders, Sustainable Textiles Group LLC is able to re-open a closed textile facility, produce competitively priced and high-quality products, and offer job opportunities to hundreds of North Carolinians. It's a win-win-win situation." The state has offered Sustainable Textiles a $300,000 grant contingent on job creation. The Mooresville Tribune reports that Rowan County has granted the company a 75 percent tax rebate for five years.
