Chevron Building Lubricant Plant in Mississippi
01/31/2011
The facility represents an expansion of Chevron's existing refinery in Pascagoula, which employs more than 1,600 people. The plant will produce base oil, a motor oil ingredient that is said to improve fuel economy, lower tail-pipe emission, and extend the time between oil changes. The base oil is also used to make lubricants for high-tech machinery and equipment used in the commercial and industrial sectors.
When complete at the end of 2013, the lubricant plant will produce at least 25,000 barrels of base oil per day, doubling Chevron's manufacturing capacity and making the company the world's largest producer of premium base oil. The plant will serve markets in North America, Latin America, and Europe.
